Over Memorial weekend the FH and I went to a wedding in Mexico. It was a good friend of ours and FH was a groomsman. It was great fun, but because it was a huge mexican wedding, I got a little bit of wedding envy. Particularly dress envy.
I know that when I first started I had my heart set on a short red dress, then I figured a tea length white dress with red accents, because my mom was initially so against red.
This 2008 UK wedding has always been my inspiration for my own. |
But seeing the big white dress and how bridal she looked, suddenly I was second guessing myself. I mentioned it to my FH (though I have been trying to keep the dress a big secret, and didn't mention the color. Just that my dress was so different than hers, so much more simple). He told me to go back to the store and ask about re-trying it on. I needed to talk to them about the move.

Tulle with lace appliques. My friend didn't have a belt |
The next weekend I got a message that my dress had come in. It was really fortuitous timing. So I went in to try it on (sorry, I didn't end up with any pictures) and it just made my day. Seriously, I couldn't get this song out of my head.
So, originally I expected to get a tea length dress with sleeves, because I really wanted to be comfortable and wanted to be able to dance. I didn't want to be pulling up on a strapless dress all night, or kicking it out of my way trying to get around in a huge skirt.
But I LOVED my dress. I don't want to hem it shorter and dresses with sleeves that I tried on made it really hard to dance well because they're so fitted.
I did try on an ivory lace off the shoulder bolero that buttons in the back and I really liked it. The red shows through the top, and the ivory isn't as stark as white would be. Plus an ivory veil, & ivory shoes, I think that I will feel plenty "bridal." Kitty, I totally hear what you're saying about covering up the beautiful detail of the top, but I am planning on wearing the cover up for the ceremony and dinner only. The pictures and the reception will be in just the red dress.
Trying on my dress made me so excited for the wedding! only 4 months to go.

Oh I really hope you post a picture of the dress when you are ready for it.. I am sure you will look more than amazing in it :)
You know a red dress might be unusual for some cultures, but in places such as India/Pakistan ect the wedding dresses are colorful and usually red cause red is the color of love and romance :)
What is the wedding date? I would love it if you would share some wedding details :)
