I had the worst night ever last night. And it all stemmed from my own tremendous stupidity.

I am now just down to my night shift job and the occasional freelance that comes my way. Yesterday was my first day with just that schedule and it was awesome. I got 8 hours of sleep, did Yoga Meltdown level 1, started cleaning up my apartment from weeks of neglect, played with Black Kitty, watched a little Hulu, went to the fitness center and walked/jogged on the treadmill for 40 minutes. And then things went south.

I was supposed to have a meeting with my boss first thing at the start of my shift. So I was trying to look extra nice - I took a shower, and I brought make up, and nice professional outfit to change into. But, I guess I took too long because I was late by a few minutes. Knock on his office door at 5 minutes after 4 only to be told that it was rescheduled, which I had been emailed about. Only I didn't know that because I hadn't had time to log on to my work email (no way am I checking work email at home!).  So I went back to my desk to put all my stuff away and realize I left my dinner in my car. It's cold enough, I thought, I can wait and get it on my break.

Break time comes, I get my coat to go out to my car and I can't find my keys. I empty out my work bag and I can't find them in it anywhere. They are not in my coat or anywhere around my desk. I re-trace my steps and I can't find them. I even looked under and around my car. I check lost and found. Nothing.

So building security won't help me because it's a liability - they may damage my car, and I have to call a locksmith. I tried both my insurance and AAA first, but they tell me that even if I sign up for roadside assitance or a membership and pay for it right then they can not send out a locksmith because it only applies to future problems. Basically, I got a "pre-existing condition" clause from CAR INSURANCE people! WTF?  Which meant I had to pay full price for a one time lockout to the locksmith. I called 1/2 an hour before my shift is over and they say it'll take an hour. Fine, I can wait outside for half an hour, no biggy. Except they don't come in an hour. They come way later, and I even called them again. The lady was like, "he should be there, he probably can't find you."  So why did they ask for my phone number? Why isn't he calling me to find out wehre I am?

So, anyway, he gets there, and he gets into my car super fast which was awesome. Until I look for my keys and they aren't there.  Literally I cannot find my keys anywhere in my car. Granted my car isn't the cleanest inside, but I knew where I remembered having them last. Now I have to pay this guy $60 and I still don't have my keys. I called the BF sobbing. I was cold, and tired, and upset.

To his credit the BF was basically like, "Where do you keep your spare? How long of a drive is it? and Where are you exactly?"  Not that he was happy about a 45 min drive each way to rescue my ass, but he was there fore me.

This was an hour and a half after the locksmith got me in and he was lliterally on his way (had even paid a toll) when I finally found my keys.... in my purse. Yes. That's right. They were in some weird tiny outside, side pocket that I never use, and so hadn't bothered to check when I emptied everything from inside it. If I keep my keys in an outside pocket they are always in the front pocket. I can't even say what prompted me to check there when I did.

So I had to call the BF and say don't come, turn around. He was not pleased, and of course I lied my ass off about where I found them. I was so embarrassed. How completely moronic can one person be? To have wasted almost 3 hours of my own time and $60 when they were on me the whole time.  I just feel like the biggest idiot ever. So instead I told him they had slid into a crevice and been covered by garbage in my car and that it took me that long in cleaning out to find them. He's always making fun of my dirty car, and I would rather be yelled at about that than admit that I'm just stupid.

And of course, he wasn't angry probably a little put out because he'd driven to my place to get a key and then driven out about 15 minutes and paid a toll only to have me not need it. But, he was glad to not have to make the whole trip and he was glad that I had keys. And I am super impressed that he was as cool as he was. He didn't even ask if  I need help, just asked me if I had a spare and where I kept it. He even texted me today to see if I was doing alright. I mean, I was in near hysterics the first time I called, imagining I had lost all my apartment keys and my car key. I just can't ever tell him what a numbskull his girlfriend is.

Girl! Don't feel too bad. It's happened to me too! I had my husband come all the way back from work after he had just got there and come to drive me to work b/c I couldn't find my keys only to find them the minute he walked in the door. I felt so bad!! They had fallen into a couch cushion. He was totally okay with it too and didn't get mad. We are lucky! Glad you found them. What a horrible ordeal. I'd have been beside myself too.

Aww :( Im sorry you had such a horrible time.. :(

I always lose stuff too - specially in my purse,, and end up making a fool out of my self finding them exactly where I had left them to begin with..

Look at the bright side :) your BF was there for you even if he wasn't happy about the drive ect :)
