First, I wasn't even going to get a florist. Because I don't like the idea of spending so much money on flowers. Flowers are one of those things that I want to like more than I do. I wish I was the type of person who put out cut flowers just because they're pretty, but I don't. I wish I was plant person too, but I tend to forget about them. I do love being given flowers. My favorite was when FH would send them to my work for special occasions. But that's super expensive.

The downside was that I'd have to put everything together myself the days leading up. And sure, I could have asked for help, but with an out of town wedding that's hard to really count on.
At the advice of almost everyone I know, I priced out some florists. Most weren't willing to talk with in my budget. One even sent me a link to a "what brides spend on wedding flowers" website, and all I could think is that just because you have a link that says MOST people pay you that ridiculous price, doesn't make it right. Others kept trying to stear me away from the really small and simple arrangements I wanted to much bigger more expensive ones.

In the end I got an estimate from my day of coordinator. She's charging me $1300 and she's doing all of the work. She sent me the break down, so I can see where the mark ups are... for example my boquet is 12 gerber dasies wrapped in 2 colors of ribbon. At an upscale florist I can buy a dozen daisies for under $50, ribbon if I had to buy the whole spools $6. I'm being charged $85. Granted it is less that the $100-150 alot of places will charge. And there is next to no mark up on the centerpiece flowers...
The other great thing, is that she totally understood what I was going for in my simple arrangements. so for an extra $300 in labor costs I get to relax for the two days leading up to my wedding and we don't have to keep bulk flowers alive. Plus, a florist will make sure that my flowers look great the day of. A bulk website is just gonna send me what they have.

Kitty, I know. It was such a strange way of telling me that they couldn't possibly do what I wanted in my budget. And then she sent me pictures of arrangements that were nothing like what I wanted. When I asked for an estimate regardless of it being in my price range, she never answered. Glad I found someone else too!
